Incorporation
Early in 2001, the Port Committee of the Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce was instrumental, along with the City of Corner Brook and a number of other port stakeholders, in establishing the Corner Brook Port Corporation (CBPC), a not-for-profit corporation established under the laws of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Mandate
Immediately following its' incorporation, the Corner Brook Port Corporation established a mandate as follows:
• To ensure the growth and development of high quality ocean
transportation and distribution services.
• To enhance the economic well being of Western and Northern
Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Following divestiture, the Corner Brook Port Corporation will operate as a commercially viable not-for-profit corporation.
Three Lines of Business
The Corner Brook Port Corporation has three main lines of business. These three sources of revenue help the Corporation achieve its mandate:
Industrial Port Operations
• Primary income generator
• Overall goal to increase tonnage
• Committed to continuous improvements to service and infrastructure
Real Estate
• Building revitalization
• Maximize potential of waterfront
• Beautify and improve accessibility to the waterfront
Cruise Tourism
• Host both large and expedition cruise ships
• Develop as a home port for expedition cruise ships
• Marketing message: Explore the Unexpected
Milestones
2001 - Organization officially incorporated as Corner Brook Port Corporation
2004 - Divestiture of the port and associated assets from Transport Canada
2007 - Acquisition of additional land and two buildings adjacent to the port
2008 - Commissioning of new high capacity crane & signing of 35 year lease agreement with Oceanex.
2009 Official Opening of the R.A. Pollett Building at 61 Riverside Drive
